Competition entry: Paradise Garden
“The garden is breathing out the air of Paradise today/ Towards me, a friend with a sweet nature, and this wine.” Hafez (1489)- The garden.
OMNIBUS joined the Hardturm open competition for housing along with unique assemblage and bürgi architekten.
In terms of urban design and landscape, this part of the project draws an inspiration decomplexée from the Persian garden. From the outside, the garden- courtyard is signaled by its towering cypresses. The inside atmosphere marks an accentuated contrast between the hostile world outside the walls (traffic, noise, asphalt) and the lush atmosphere inside, with bright vegetation, water fountains and colorful tiles. Axial symmetry contrasts with bushy areas. The plan is mimetically and loosely based on the Persian carpet, defining fields of activity through different flooring. The water channels are concrete profile- lined with blue color so that the water seems always bright and vivid, a technique to be found in the Fin gardens of Kashan, Iran. The pool mirrors a central community pavilion. Lines of evergreens cypresses (Cupressus sempervirens) along the ordered fields enforce the calm and relaxed atmosphere of the garden. Beeches (Fagus sylvatica f. purpurea) and spruces (Picea abies) as well as pines keep a density and leafy atmosphere strong throughout the year.
