The 12th International Architecture Biennale of S\u00e3o Paulo<\/a>, co-curated by Charlotte Malterre-Barthes, takes place at two manifesto-buildings: Sesc 24 de Maio,<\/a> and Centro Cultural S\u00e3o Paulo <\/a>(CCSP) exhibiting ‘Everyday’ 10 site-specific devices that address the everyday by various artists and architects, from the screening booth of Beka&Lemoine<\/a> ‘Homo Urbanos’ that shows the daily grind of humans living in city with 6 movies, to Bruther<\/g><\/a>‘s<\/g> ‘Cloud-Catcher’ that turns water into an experience affecting those using the pool deck everyday. Selected after an open call, some 70 works are exhibited at CCSP at ‘Architectures of the Everyday’, among which Li Tavor & Buzzis’ delicate sound installation about the thresholds of the buildings and the everyday moves we don’t perceive, the AI brooms of dorfundrust<\/g><\/a> that take a tongue-in-cheek approach to maintenance and technology, and the simple but powerful bathroom extension in the Jardim Colombo favela of S\u00e3o Paulo by Ester Carro<\/a> that epitomizes the discreet power of everyday to highlight how design is a relevant and common matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The current state of unprecedented human and environmental impacts from<\/g> climate change, including the latest global panic over the forest fires<\/g> in the Amazon, is the backdrop for this event. Both the program and<\/g> the participating projects attempt to reimagine how the everyday realm<\/g> shapes our world in the 21st century, considering how recent geopolitical<\/g> changes, revisions of the rule of law, and the challenges of<\/g> an automated future might affect the daily life of humans and non-humans<\/g>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Todo dia\/Everyday<\/em> unfolds along<\/g> three perspectives: Everyday Stories<\/strong>, Everyday Resources<\/strong> and<\/g> Everyday Maintenance<\/strong>. Everyday Stories examines the myriad ways architects and other design professionals<\/g> reinterpret the everyday<\/g>, reporting stories linked to the production<\/g> of space, ranging from the poetic subtleties of the quotidian to<\/g> the revelation of the violence, and inequalities that affect lives daily<\/g>. Everyday Resources addresses the growing awareness of architects, landscape designers, and urban planners with uses of everyday resources both<\/g> in urban and rural contexts in the Anthropocene. Everyday Maintenance explores the maintenance of architecture and the city, a long overlooked<\/g> subject now gaining attention in today\u2019s political spheres<\/g> and within technological research worldwide. ” (published on e-flux)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
